China’s Trade Secret Protection Rules Take Effect June 1
June 25, 2026

China’s updated “Rules on the Protection of Trade Secrets” formally went into force nationwide on June 1. Widening statutory protection boundaries, the regulation includes proprietary algorithms and operational business data under trade secret safeguards for the first time.
It lays out explicit confidentiality requirements for remote-office arrangements and cross-border corporate cooperation, while standardizing administrative law enforcement procedures against secret infringement. The new rules help businesses of all sizes better defend core confidential assets and improve the innovation-oriented business climate in China.
